2/47A Brisbane Street facebook.com/CincoPassiones Okay, this isn’t a restaurant, but we can justify including cocktail bar Cinco Passiones in our blog because we end up here four out of five times we dine out in Launceston. Owner/operator Drew is simply one of the best hospitality operators we’ve come across anywhere in the world. For some lucky reason he’s chosen to ply his mixology skills here in Launceston and not in Monaco or New York. Sit at the bar and let him tell you a story or two, or take a comfy chair by the window and watch Launceston at night from (relatively) high above street level.
To be honest, cocktails aren’t usually my thing and I know very little about them (but I know what I like). Jess is far more versed in this stuff and chooses for us some bloody delicious sippings. My favourites at Cinqo Passiones tend to be spirit heavy and, for some reason, have names ending in ‘bastard’, which is surely a coincidence. Jess’s most recent discovery tasted like a dessert. Somehow. You can pick up a cigar here, too. Of course, you’ll have to descend three flights of stairs to the alley to smoke it, but it’s still the closest I’ve seen to a cigar bar around these parts. Even if you’re a beer-and-wine swiller like me, you’ll love this place. There’s simply nothing else like it in Tassie. The place fills up pretty quickly on Fridays and Saturdays, but if you get there early you should be able to grab a spot. Have a bastard for me! |
